Commodore never forgot that they were Commodore Business Machines. Although best known for their
home computers, business products were almost constantly available. In the computer market,
Commodore began with their CBM 8000 line machines. Afterwards, Commodore
developed the CBM-II line. However, it was during development of this
line that the IBM PC began to clean out the confusing business PC landscape. Although Commodore
considered adapting their CBM-II line to run MS-DOS applications, they eventually decided to
enter the clone market, which ended their run of proprietary business computers.
The first machines Commodore produced in this line were 8088-based, and usually came with the maximum 640K of addressible memory. Most of these machines come standard with at least one 5.25" floppy disk drive, 25 pin serial COM-port, 25 pin parallel Centronics port, a Commodore "bus" mouse port, and both RGBI and composite video output ports. The most famous machine in this line is the Commodore Colt, found near the bottom.
